Lon Blaser serves as Medical Director of Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire (GHC). He assumed this role in September 2002. As Medical Director, he leads Health Operations, Quality Improvement and Provider Management for the health plan. Dr. Blaser came to GHC from Marshfield Clinic where he was a Division Medical Director managing the clinical operations of a multi-specialty division of 170 physicians and 600 employees covering a five-county region in Western Wisconsin. Dr. Blaser practiced rheumatology at Marshfield Clinic in addition to his administrative duties.
Dr. Blaser received his medical degree from Michigan State University in 1986. He received a Master of Social Work degree from St. Louis University in 1978. Dr. Blaser’s post-graduate medical education included an internship at Metropolitan Hospital – Grand Rapids, MI, internal medicine residency at Marshfield Clinic – Marshfield, WI, and a rheumatology fellowship at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics – Madison, WI.
Dr. Blaser is a diplomat of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, where he holds certification in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Dr. Blaser is certified by the American College of Physician Executives Commission in Medical Management as a Certified Physician Executive.
